Garden Planning!
It's garden planning time! Here is my favorite site for purchasing heirloom, organic seeds. These folks are friends of ours and have an excellent web-site with fast and friendly customer service.

So how many tomato plants should I plant for a family of six? I use a chart similar to this one to give me a general idea. https://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/store/avactis-images/u/VEGETABLEPLANTINGCHART_3.pdf
Here's a very helpful companion planting guide, to help you know which plants are beneficial to each other. http://farmtopreschool.org/pdf/2.3_CompanionPlanting_Chart.pdf
I use graph paper and draw my garden, rearranging my plants to find the "perfect" spot for each.
My Grandpa was an avid gardener who always planted by the moon signs. We have experimented by planting seeds in the "dead" sign and honestly, most of them did not come up. The ones that did were spindly and did not thrive. So, I do try to plant by the moon signs when I can. But if it's snowing or raining, I'll wait until it's sunny! (Guess that makes me a fair-weather gardener!) http://www.almanac.com/gardening/planting-dates/WI/Shawano
So come March 25, 2013, we are going to be very busy starting our seeds indoors.
