This blog is simply the telling of one helpmeet and mother's quest to fulfill her God-ordained destiny. It is written with the hopes that other young women will embrace their calling to be godly wives and mothers; that they will be encouraged to love their husband and children and will find contentment in being keepers at home.

Dining Room Face-Lift

While visiting my family in Ohio, I was extremely blessed to be able to purchase fabric for valances for our dining room, from my sister's new fabric shop.

Due to the fact that I have not seen my sister in over twenty years, I already treasure the fabric.

After much searching, I have decided to make jabots similar to the one pictured above, but plan to make the valance similar to the first two (they are reversible) on this pattern:
This is a picture of the big window in our dining room (we also have a smaller one on the right wall).

To create the optical illusion that the room is taller and to optimize light from the window, I'm going to hang the valance from the ceiling, with just a couple of inches of material over the actual window.

The material is a medium blue floral, so I'm trying to decide what corresponding fabric color would work best.  Navy blue and white have both been suggested, but we'll see what can be found at the quilt shop tomorrow.

Update:  The shopping trip was unsuccessful.  We couldn't find any co-ordinating fabric.  So I changed plans entirely.  Here's the finished product:  I do plan to make matching curtains, so that we close them at night.

Shopping's going to be fun!!! I've been thinking about making curtains for my room...I'm not sure if I'll end up doing it though.

Happy Sewing!
